Abstract

Water shortage is currently one of the biggest concerns of the human being worldwide and it becomes a global problem that affects seriously the lives of high numbers of the world population and it is an essential element for the economic development and political stability. Population growth and economic development are the two major driving forces of water demand, in developing countries the rapid population growth together with an eagerness to develop the national economy, typically through industrialization on has generated a strong demand for additional water. This situation has been the basis underlying many projections of a substantial expansion of industrial water use. The large increase in industrial water consumption will put greater pressure on these countries’, water resources and financial sources, because of the need for investing in water supply facilities. It has been evident that in many countries the competition for water resources has led to a continuous transfer of agricultural water to industries and domestic, municipal uses. This has exacerbated the water stress in the agricultural production and thus is detrimental to food security.
