Abstract Summary Aim of the study The purpose of this study was to illicit depression and anxiety symptoms in female patient with breast cancer in Beni Suef government and asses association of these symptoms with different treatment modalities. Subject and method This is a cross-sectional study conducted in the Clinical Oncology Department in Beni Suef University included 155 patients with breast cancer using an interview form, which inquired about demographic data, cancer breast history, and medical history information. Result • This study revealed that stage of the cancer is strongly associated with depression and breast cancer patients with advanced stage had higher risk of depression as compared to those with early stage cancer. • The patients who underwent modified radical mastectomy or conservative breast surgery had severe depressive symptoms while the majority of the patients who didn’t do surgery at all didn’t have depression symptoms. • Depression symptoms were more common among patients who receive chemotherapy than those who don’t receive chemotherapy. Conclusion Cancer patients really experience high level of psychological disorders mostly anxiety and depression. It is very important to detect those patients and treating them. |
