The present research aims to develop the content of high-school biology curricula in accordance with the next generation’s standards for developing high-level thinking skills among high school students. This goal is accomplished through answering the subsequent questions: 1-What are the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) that should be included in the secondary school biology curricula? 2- To what extent do biology curricula (objectives - content - teaching and learning activities - assessment methods) currently applied at the secondary stage include the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS)? 3- What is the developed biology curriculum in light of the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS)? 4- What is the effectiveness of teaching the developed biology curriculum in light of the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) in developing the academic achievement of first year secondary students? 5- What is the effectiveness of teaching the developed biology curriculum in light of the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) in developing higher-order thinking skills among first-year secondary students? 6- What is the effectiveness of teaching the developed biology curriculum in light of the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) in developing the attitudes towards biological innovations among first-year secondary students? 7- Is there a correlation between students’ achievement and their acquisition of higher-order thinking skills on their attitudes towards biological innovations? The study followed the experimental curriculum. The sample comprised of (30 schoolgirls) first-grade high school students at Sandub High School for girls in Mansoura City. The materials and tools involved: a questionnaire to determine the criteria for the science of the next generation (NGSS), a tool for evaluating the content of the biology curriculum considering science standards for the next generation, an instructor’s guide to teach the developed chapter (inheritance of qualities), an activity manuscript, a student book, a learning test, a high-level thinking skills test. The tests were applied after verifying their sincerity and reliability. The application of such experiment took seven weeks including the preparation and the application of research tools. The obtained results were statistically processed. The current research reached the following results: The effectiveness of the developed curriculum in the light of the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) in biology for the first secondary grade in developing higher-order thinking skills and the attitudes towards biological innovations
