Abstract Background: Type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM) can have serious socio-economic effects due to its many potential complications, which include microvascular (diabetic nephropathy (DN), neuropathy and retinopathy) and macrovascular complications (atherosclerosis, ischemic heart disease, stroke and peripheral vascular disease which frequently results in amputation(. Objective: To assess the Neutrophil-lymphocyte Ratio, Interleukin- 6 (IL-6) and tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α) in Type 2 Diabetes with Diabetic Nephropathy. Patients and Methods: This Case control study was conducted on 90 subjects with their ages ranging from 35-70, selected from Internal Medicine and Endocrinology outpatient clinics and the inpatient department at Ain Shams University Hospitals. Results: The present study was conducted on Type 2 diabetic patients, aged 35-70 years, presented to Internal Medicine and Endocrinology outpatient clinics and the inpatient department at Ain Shams University Hospitals. The current study included 90 subjects, divided into 45 diabetic patients and 45 controls. The cases were subdivided into three groups (15 patients without proteinuria, 15 patients with microalbuminuria and 15 patients with macroalbuminuria). . Conclusion: In conclusion, the current study could find that NLR, IL-6 and TNF-α were significantly associated with albuminuria in Type 2 Diabetic patients with DN and that they can be used as evident biomarkers in assessing the progression of deteriorating renal function and different stages of renal disease in patients with DN. |
