Abstract

The current study discusses the issue of the compound living creatures in the Islamic art in Egypt since the beginning of the Islamic period until the end of the Mamluk epoch. Through this research process applied on the historical period of this study, it was uncovered the existence of seven compound living creatures besides the artifacts of Angels.
The study traces the artistic history of each compound living creature related to the subject matter of this research. Moreover, it throws light upon the symbolism of utilizing these creatures in the Islamic art. In addition, the study clarifies the influential arts that affected the Muslim artist while utilizing the compound living creatures on his masterpieces.
Finally, the study tries to place a vision on how to get benefit of this new notion in museums’ displays in order to contribute to touristic improvement in Egypt.
