Abstract

Burn is a bodily injury caused by exposure to heat, electricity, or some radiations, marked by different degrees of skin damage often with the formation of watery blisters. Most individuals can recover from burns without severe health consequences, based on the cause and degree of injury, more serious burns demand immediate emergency medical care to avoid complications and death. Burn unit nurses typically work in burn centers and, emergency rooms to care for patients, keeping patient heavily sedated to manage the severe pain while cleaning and dressing the wound. They render as emotional caregivers for patients’ families after the harrowing incident, observing, assessing, and often managing burn victims to maintain their physical well-being.
Aim of the study:
The present study aims was to evaluate the effect of the educational nursing program on nurse’s performance regarding burn injury. This aim was achieved through the following:
1. Evaluate nurses’ knowledge regarding burn injury management.
2. Evaluate nurses’ practices and attitudes regarding the care of a patient with burn injury.
3. Design , implement and, educate the educational nursing program toward nursing care of a patient with burn injury.
The study results revealed the following:
• Half (50%) of the studied nurses had 20 to <40 years old, the majority (85%) of them were female. Half of the studied nurses (50%) were graduated from the technical nursing institute and more than half among them (55% & 60%) had more than 10 years of experience, and they have attended training about burn care.
• Most nurses had unsatisfactory knowledge relating burn in the pre-intervention phase. While the majority of them had satisfactory knowledge concerning burn in the posttest (1&2).
• All of the nurses had unsatisfactory practice regarding burn in the pre-intervention phase. While a majority of them had satisfactory practice regarding burn in immediate, posttest (1) & posttest (2).
• All of the nurses had a negative attitude regarding burn in the pre-intervention phase. While a majority of them had a positive attitude regarding burn in immediate, posttest (1) & posttest (2).
