Abstract

Cisplatin is a chemotherapy drug it as a treatment for a number of different types of cancer as testicular, ovarian, bladder, head and neck, and non-small cell lung cancer, it contains platinum, it is used alone or in combination with other medications to slow or stop cancer cell growth, this medication is usually given by injection into a vein by a health care professional, the dosage is based on your medical condition, body size, and response to therapy, courses of . treating cancer of the testes ovaries or bladder.
There are many side effects of cisplatin Nephrotoxicity, Ototoxicity: Hematologic and Gastrointestinal.
Broccoli is a good source of lutein, a compound antioxidant, and sulforaphane, which is a very potent antioxidant, also contains additional nutrients, including some magnesium, phosphorus, a little zinc and iron. Here are the nutrition facts for broccoli, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, which was regulates food labeling through the National
Mushrooms are high in antioxidants, and other whole foods. Antioxidants are chemicals that get rid of free radicals, a type of chemical that can harm a person’s body cell, potentially leading to cancer selenium is a mineral that is not present in most fruits and vegetables but can be found in mushrooms. It plays a role in liver enzyme function and helps detoxify some cancer-causing compounds in the body. Additionally, selenium prevents inflammation and also decreases tumor growth rates (Machowsky, 2017).
In the present work Study the effect of different concentrations of broccoli and mushroom as powder (2.5 and 5%) on biological, biochemical and histological changes of male albino rats. Study the efficiency of different concentrations of broccoli and mushroom powder to reduce the side effects of cisplatin chemotherapy in albino rats. Some physiological characteristics such as (liver functions, kidney functions, body weight gain, feed intake, feed efficiency ratio and internal organs weight) in tested albino rats were also measured. Determination of some active compounds (total phenols, total flavonoids, antioxidant activity and identification of phenolic compounds) in broccoli and mushroom powder using HPLC. Biological and biochemical parameters evaluated and histopathological characteristics investigated. The result revealed the following:
A- Chemical composition of broccoli:
1. The highest mineral contents in broccoli recorded for potassium and phosphorus. The values were 276 and 80 mg/g, respectively.
2. While, the lowest value recorded for cupper, manganese, zinc and iron, the values were 0.08, 0.28, 0.46 and 0.65 mg/g, respectively.
B-Identification of phenolic compounds in broccoli:
1. The highest phenolic compounds of broccoli recorded for gallic acid, pyrogallic acid and chlorogenic acid. The values were 192.43, 186.72 and117.38 mg/100g DW, respectively.
2. While, the lowest value recorded for ferulic acid, caffic acid and vanillin. The values were 9.96, 6.26 and 5.08 mg/100g DW.
C-Total phenols, total flavonoids, DPPH and TEAC of mushroom and broccoli
1. Mushroom had higher significantly (p≤0.05) in DPPH % than total phenols, total flavonoids and TEAC.
2. Total phenols were (136.50) in broccoli were significantly (p≤0.05) increase than DPPH, total flavonoids and TEAC, respectively.
