Abstract

This research aimed to study the antifungal effect of Fe2 O3 NPs, Ag NPs, and ZNo NPs against a conventionally used azole itraconazole on 10 fungal isolates from a total of 60 specimens collected from superficial mycosis. Fifty cases from human and 10 cases from pet animals. human cases were obtained from the private laboratory for mycological examination in Cairo while pet animals’ samples were collected from veterinary private clinics in Zagazig, Damietta, and Cairo during 2019-2021. All samples were subjected to KOH, Direct Microscopy, and identification. A total of 55 isolates from both human and pet animals were identified. Ten isolates of fungi C. albicans. parapsilosis, C. tropicalis, C. krusei, T.mentagrophytes. T. violaceum. M. canis, F. solani, A. flavus, A. niger were used to test the antifungal effect of 4 serial dilution of each of Fe2O3NPs, Ag NPs, ZNO NPs and in comparison, with Itraconazole by well diffusion method. This study revealed that: Fe2O3NPs showed noticeable clear wide inhibition zones in most of the rested isolat with its four serial dilutions of 27,13.5,6.75 and 3.75 and 3.75 ug/ml. While ZNo and Ag Nps showed from mild to moderate inhibtion zones with their 4 serial dilutions. This concludes: Fe2O3 NPs is a potentially broad-spectrum antifungal material, and it is worth being further investigated for medical applications as an antifungal drug used for both human and pet animals.
