Abstract

Humeral shaft fracture not frequent in children and adolescence and occurs due twisting injury, direct blow, falling, and road traffic accidents.
It may be associated with radial nerve injury, vascular injury or rarely compartment syndrome.
Conservative measures remain the main method of treatment at this young age but surgical treatment indicated in specific circumstances like open fractures, multiple trauma patients, and vascular injury
The aim of this study is to compare healing time and complications of two treatment methods conservative methods and flexible intramedullary nailing of humeus shaft fracture.
The purpose of this study is to document the healing time and assessment of the complication of the 2 types of treatment.
24 patients divided into 2 groups
 group (A) :twelve patients which are treated by conservative methods
 group (B): twelve patients which are treated by elastic nails
The follow up period is six months. The study includes 24 patients thirteen male and eleven female with average age 12 years.
all patients are evaluated for healing time and complications
Our results revealed that there no significant difference between healing time between conservative methods and elastic nails, the complication rate are higher in elastic nails.
In conclusion, we found that elastic nails give better radiologic outcome than conservative treatment but the same functional out come and healing time as conservative methods. It also reveals that conservative measures are low in complication rate than elastic nails
