Abstract

A landfill was a place where all the waste materials from a region (city, municipality, and country, among others) are disposed. In our daily life many sections under municipal solid waste (MSW) like glass, papers, food leftovers, tins, and residential waste was the most important source of solid waste.
*
In the landfill, the most important process was the conversion of the carbon in the organic waste to CO2 and CH4. These two gases were the most important constituents of the landfill. The process of waste conversion into gases involve two stages; first was aerobic where there was enough of oxygen, the second happens with no oxygen and it was called anaerobic the most important one is anaerobic.
The methane evolved in the landfill was a potential source of energy, releasing it into the atmosphere had numerous environmental consequences, including its effect on the global warming phenomenon and its contribution to increasing the amount of Ozone (O3) in the troposphere and stratosphere. Therefore, the collection and utilization of methane had several beneficial effects, both environmentally and economically
This study had the follows aims to carry it; Conserve energy and raise national economic benefits. Generate electric energy from Elhamam landfill instead of burning methane gas. Protect the surrounding environment from burning gas.
Elhamame landfill site was located at 80 km from the city of Alexandria and 35 meters south of the coastal road. The total area of the site was 1,190 sq km (1700 x 700 m) nearly about 354 acres and the area designated for burial is 150 acres.
On The arrival of the waste to the landfill, the cells have been filled with the waste completely and covered with soil. Final coverage and leveling of the slopes were conducted followed by determining the points where the wells will be drilled. Drilling was carried out.
