Abstract Background: Psoriasis is a common, chronic autoimmune disease of the skin, which affects approximately 2% of the general population. The lesions are characterized by red, scaly, raised plaques affecting different body sites. Angiopoietin-2 (ANG-2) is a ligand of tyrosine kinase endothelial specific receptor 2 (Tie2). It has been associated with vascular remodeling and stabilization signals in angiogenesis. Objectives: The current study aimed at evaluating the level of ANG- 2 in serum and skin (lesional & non lesional) of psoriatic patients and correlating its level with disease severity in patient group. Also, it aimed at comparing its level in patient group with healthy control group. Patients & Methods: This study included 40 participants; 20 psoriatic patients and 20 healthy controls. They were selected from dermatology department Fayoum University Hospital (Fayoum, Egypt) during the period from October 2017 to February 2018.Tissue biopsy was taken from lesional and non-lesional psoriatic tissue. ANG-2 ELISA kit was used for determination of the ANG-2 in serum and tissue. Results: Angiopiotien- 2 was higher in serum and tissues (lesional and non- lesional). It was higher in lesional than in non- lesional and the difference was highly statistically significant. Both serum and tissues (lesional and non- lesional) ANG-2 was higher than control group as well Conclusion: Ang-2 may have a major importance in the orchestra played in order to create the psoriatic plaque evidenced by its high level in serum and tissue in comparison to the control group. Key words: psoriasis, pathogenesis, angiogenesis, Angiopiotien-2. |
