Abstract

Abstract : Background: Child sexual abuse (CSA) is a serious public health problem and worry all over the world. It leads to increased risk for physical, social, psychosocial and mental health problems across child span of life. Consequently, it is important to increase mothers’ awareness about child self-protection against sexual abuse through effective health educational material. The aim of this study is to design health education booklet for mothers about child self-protection against sexual abuse. Methods : Qualitative phenomenological research design and Delphi method was utilized to accomplish this study. This study was conducted at the different faculties affiliated to Mansoura University. A Purposive sampling technique was used in this study. The participants were 60 working mothers and have children less than ten years old. The researcher developed seven tools for collecting the data of this study as the following: socio-demographic of mothers and their children, semi-structured interview tools to assess mothers’ knowledge, subjective practice & attitude regarding child sexual abuse. The researcher used Delphi panel to assess experts and mother’s feedback regarding the developed health educational booklet. Results : Most of mothers had lack of knowledge about child sexual abuse and its preventive practices. Experts and mothers were satisfied of the health educational booklet content. Conclusion: The researcher concluded that the majority of mothers had inadequate knowledge about child sexual abuse and its prevention practices. Most of the mothers had negative attitude in discussing this topic. Recommendation : The researcher recommended that the primary prevention of child sexual abuse is to involve parents mainly mothers into health educational programs as well as child in self-protection skills.
