Traditional museums are one of the most important sources of learning in the field of art education. They work on developing an aesthetic appreciation by displaying original artworks, highlighting creative and aesthetic values, disseminating cultural information, and organizing activities and events in order to achieve their aims.
There are many challenges that limit the use of museums in education, so many traditional museums have created virtual museums to display their collections on the Internet, to provide a low-cost museum display, where artwork and archaeology can be displayed in a way that simulates what happens in real museums.
Virtual museums are also characterized by a number of characteristics, such as: digitization, anthropomorphism, richness of content, multimedia, interactive, immersive, informational, global, social, availability and electronic access (Mohamed Khamis, 2015, 3(
Art education occupies its place through the educational aims that it seeks to achieve. In general education, it aims for the learner to understand the artistic production of the Pharaonic, Coptic and Islamic civilizations, With its authentic nature stemming from the Egyptian environment, enabling the learner to crystallize ideas through study and innovation to suit the visual vision.
Zainab Ali (2005, 42) adds that art education works on developing young people and encourages them to create works of art with their hands and minds, as well as educating them in artistic appreciation from a young age, by seeing as many artworks as possible, and converging views between the individual and the artist.
The importance of developing artistic appreciation is due to the importance of educational returns for the individual and society. Developing a sense of beauty refines morals and modifies behavior, which positively affects the learner and his relationship with others. The society also benefits from the educational return through the positive behaviors of its members.
Artistic appreciation is an ability like creativity, and it is one of the factors of artistic ability, and this ability was distinguished through the results of measures of aesthetic appreciation that were applied to school children and adults, which showed that in all stages of development the ability to artistic appreciation appears independent of artistic creativity (Mustafa Hassan and Afaf Farraj, 2015, 2)
Creativity and artistic appreciation are important to the individual and society. Through their development, the general objective of education can be achieved, which is to achieve comprehensive and integrated growth for the citizen, as the development of artistic appreciation leads to the development of the emotional side of the learner, and then the citizen has a positive attitude towards love and appreciation of the cultural heritage. Nature, and the aspects of beauty that he experiences in his daily life, and the development of artistic creativity leads to the development of the knowledge and skill aspect of the learner, and work on the development of society and the homeland in all aspects of life.
Therefore, the current research is interested in researching the two patterns of navigation in virtual museums (Free navigation / Restricted navigation) and their relationship to the development of creativity and artistic appreciation among students of the preparatory students.
Research problem and identification:
To monitor the reality of creativity and artistic appreciation, the researcher prepared a survey to find out the teachers’ opinions about the extent to which students of the preparatory session practice artistic appreciation and creativity, And it was applied to (20) teachers of art education in the educational administration of Saqala, Sohag Governorate, and the results indicate a low level of students’ creativity and artistic appreciation, from the teachers’ point of view.
The researcher also applied the artistic production evaluation form, prepared by Hessa Turki Al-Osaimi (Hessa Al-Osaimi, 2016), which dealt with themes (idea, composition, performance skills, and the general vision of artistic work and directing), on the works of (30) students of the first preparatory grade. Al-Taweel Al-Sharqiah Preparatory School of the Saqlata Educational Administration, Sohag Governorate, in order to evaluate the students’ artwork, and the results indicate the need to raise the level of students in artistic creativity.
The researcher also prepared and applied the artistic appreciation scale, in order to identify the level of artistic appreciation among students, and it was applied to (20) students of the first preparatory grade at Al-Taweel Al-Sharqiah Preparatory School affiliated to the Saqlata Educational Administration, Sohag Governorate, and the results indicated a low Students’ level of artistic appreciation .
Salama Ali, Muhammad al-Shorbaji, Narmin Muhammad, and Marwa Muhammad (2012) emphasized that there are shortcomings in developing young people’s appreciation and aesthetic perception in a scientific and educational way, and not directing them towards interest in art since their inception.
Tariq Suleiman (2013) explained that there is a general complaint about weak artistic creativity skills among students of the preparatory students, which led to a decrease in their ability to be creative in their artistic production.
Therefore, the problem of the current research was determined in the low level of creativity and artistic appreciation in art education among students of the preparatory students, which called for the preparation of a virtual museum that students visit by default, and to determine which styles of navigation in virtual museums are most effective in developing creativity and artistic appreciation.
