Abstract

The kidney is an important organ that maintain the extracellular fluid. It is a metabolically active organ. So, it is more susceptible to substances that disrupt metabolism. The kidney is responsible for the secretion of many noxious substances. therefore, it is liable to elimination of high quantities of free radicals. Energy drinks are flavored beverages that are widely used by adolescents all over the world due to their role in improvement of the physical or cognitive performance. Also, energy drinks improve strength, wakefulness and relieve the symptoms of fatigue. The heavy consumption of the energy drinks may lead to life-threatening conditions and affect many organs all over the body including the kidney. The aim of this research was to study the effect of energy drink on the histological structure of the renal cortex of adult male albino rat and the possibility of recovery using light and electron microscopes. The present study was carried out on 50 adult male albino rats weighing from 200 to 250 grams and were housed in cages that were clean with proper ventilation under the same environmental conditions. They were divided into three main groups:1- group 1 (Control group) (C):Included 10 rats that were used to study the normal structure of the renal cortex and were subdivided into two subgroups: Subgroup (C1): (included 5 rats) they were kept without treatment for 8 weeks.
