Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the impact of artificial aging on two bulkfill composite restorations regarding compressive strength, microshear bond strength, surface roughness and biofilm adhesion. The review of literature discusses the evutionof composite restorations and their defects including polymerization shrinkage. Bulkfilling philosophy has been developped to overcome disadvantages of the conventional incremental technique. The alkasites derive their name from the implentation of alkaline filler in their composition. The study used universal testing machine to evaluate compressive strength and microshear bond strength. Profilometer was used to study surface roughness , the biofilm adhesion was studied on blood agar plates in the laboratories of microbiology of faculty of medicine. Half of the specimens of both materials underwent artificial aging through storage in artificial saliva for 30 days followed by thermal cycling for 1000 cycles to evaluate the impact of aging on the mentioned properties. No significant differences were found between both materials. Conclusion: alkasite is a promising material. More studies are needed to evaluate their features.
