Abstract

Introduction Pseudomonas aeruginosa is an opportunistic pathogen that is considered a major health hazard, especially in immunodeficient patients. It is most commonly associated with nosocomial diseases, mainly affecting patients in ICUs and those having catheterization, burn, and/ or chronic illnesses. According to CDC, P. aeruginosa is one of the most common pathogens in hospitals causing about 10% of HAIs. Pseudomonas aeruginosa virulence depends on large number of cell-associated and extracellular factors including those encoded on Exo S, Nan 1 and Las B genes. -Aim of the study: This study aimed to: 1- Isolate and identify nosocomial isolates of P. aeruginosa from different specimens. 2- Detect Exo S, Nan 1 and Las B virulence genes among these isolates using polymerase chain reaction (PCR) in order to find the relation between special virulence factor and site of infection.
