Abstract

The proximal tibia and patella have a lot of landmarks which are used In several surgical procedures in orthopedics,one of these is the tibial tuberosity which is a uniform land marks in certain procedures like the high tibial osteotomy(1),and revision total kneearthroplasty(2)in which the location of tibial tuberosity is one of the most important parameters to restore the knee joint line level in cases of bone loss, and in cases of the need to put an undersized tibial component, so we will measure the tibial tuberosity level in the Egyptians by measuring the distance between the joint line and the tip of the tibial tuberosity in vivo.the Significance of the tibial tuberosity level concerning the high (supra tubercular)tibial osteotomy needed for1-Medial open wedge high tibial osteotomy in treatment of OA.medial compartment with genu varum. 2-Medial closed wedge high tibial osteotomy in treatment of OA.lateral compartment with genu valgum. 3-Lateral closed wedge high tibial osteotomy in treatment of OA.Medial compartment with genu varum. and the need of biplaner orientation of such osteotomies when requring internal fixation Location of tibial tuberosity: It located approximately (22mm)below the anterior margin of tibial plateau.this is a roughened prominance that serves as the attachment site for the ligamentumpatella,and typically varies in size between individuals(22-31 m m) Havet et al found a large variability of distance from the tibial tubercle to the joint line from (22 - 31 mm) in Radiological.(24) Knee joint line position measured from the tibial side in Chinese people: The distance to joint line was 20.48 +_ 1.64 mm from the tibial tubercle using MRI. They reported that thetibial tubercle is reliable landmark for this measurement.(25) To our knowledge no similar study has been conducted to measure these parameters in vivo.
