Abstract

The human brain being the most complex structure of the human body represents a challenge for understanding and diagnosing its impairments from the early stages of life. The introduction of 4D US allowed the study of fetal movements and facial expressions in real-time. 4D represents an important tool in the evaluation of both fetal brain development and function. The study of fetal activity in utero could differentiate between normal and abnormal behavioral patterns, and thus make possible the early recognition of fetal brain impairment. In the current study with 50 cases; 25 low risk pregnancy identified 23 fetuses with normal KANET scores (92%) & 2 fetuses had borderline scores (8%), and post-partum follow-up of cases was done which confirmed normal ATNAT score in low-risk pregnancy. 25 high-risk pregnancies identified 4 fetuses with normal score (16%) and 21 fetuses at neurological risk (84%) (3 cases with abnormal score (12%) and 18 case borderline (72%)) with 4 fetuses died, one died in utero and 3 fetuses died after delivery and period in NICU, post-partum follow-up of all cases was done which also confirm pathological ATNAT score. In IUGR about (62.5%) showed borderline score, (25%) showed normal score and about (12.5%) showed abnormal score, in post-partum follow up of the cases about (75%) confirm pathological ATNAT score. In diabetic patients about (87.5%) showed borderline score, (12.5%) showed normal score, and about (0%)showed abnormal score, in post-partum follow up of the cases about (62.5%) confirm pathological ATNAT score. In hypertensive patients about (66.67%) showed borderline score, (11.11%) showed normal score and about (22.22%) showed abnormal score, in post-partum follow up of the cases about (100%) confirm pathological ATNAT score. So, the fetal neurobehavioral evaluation by KANET score appears to be a feasible technique in monitoring fetuses of high-risk pregnancies. KANET is a method that is feasible in everyday clinical practice, with a success rate of 95% and very low falces.
