Abstract

Purpose: This clinical study was conducted to evaluate the safety and efficacy of administrating combined spinal epidural analgesia during vaginal birth and its effect on pelvic floor Materials and methods 40 primiparous female delivered vaginally after administration of combined spinal epidural analgesia and 40 else delivered without analgesia and then followed up by one hour pad weight test and transperineal ultrasound to evaluate the chance to have postpartum urinary incontinence postpartum. Results: Analgesia free group has more chance to develop postpartum urinary incontinence and the 40 primiparous females received CSEA were less eager to push with more pelvic floor relaxation and prolonged 2nd stage of labor resulting in decrease their chance in developing postpartum urinary incontinence Conclusions combined spinal epidural analgesia has a powerful pain relief with lesser motor blockade and can help in protecting against stress urinary incontinence.
