Abstract

Geopolymer concrete draws the attention of many researchers around the world due to its many advantages including its green nature as it saves the energy used in the construction sector besides avoiding the release of CO2 associated with manufacturing of Portland Cement. Developing and using such type of green construction material is going to increase nowadays as it also processes higher durability performances besides its mechanical properties especially those ambient cured. All these issues support the usage and the widespread of such material in all construction fields in near future. So there is a need to estimate its properties with non destructive tests as common with traditional Portland cement concrete. So, this thesis tries to investigate the capability of the well known non destructive test methods in estimating and predicting the mechanical properties of geopolymer concrete. To achieve that target, three Portland cement concrete mixtures with different grades were cast and tested as a reference. Moreover, three geopolymer concrete mixtures were designed (to achieve different grades), cast and tested. Both of control mixes as well as the geopolymer mixes were evaluated directly and by non destructive test methods to correlate the properties. Compressive strength, indirect tensile strength, bending strength, bond strength, and modulus of elasticity as well as concrete cover thickness were evaluated using standard test methods.
