Abstract

The in-situ measurements of the Venusian ionosphere reveal a highly structured plasma environment that has an abundance of free energy sources. The energy build-up in plasma indicates that it is out of thermodynamic equilibrium. Large deviations of thermodynamic equi- librium generate various plasma wave modes and instabilities. Thus, the Venusian plasma can support a plethora of wave modes and un- stable fluctuations. This thesis aims to investigate the basic features of linear and nonlinear low-frequency electrostatic wave modes such as ion-acoustic waves and drift waves in plasma conditions relevant to the Venusian ionosphere (in the vicinity of the terminator). The method- ology is based on employing the hydrodynamic model and the obser- vational data reported by Pioneer Venus Orbiter (PVO) and Venus Express (VEX) to model the ionospheric plasma and study how its variability influence the basic features and the (in)stability of these waves.
