Abstract

Dyslexia is considered among the most common learning disabilities; it has neurobiological basis. Individuals with dyslexia have impaired ability to read fluency and accurately. The symptoms of dyslexia seem to extended beyond their reading skills. Reading is a complicated process that need integration of phonological, visual, linguistic, and cognitive. Many hypotheses have been offered to explain dyslexia, such as the phonological theory, auditory processing theory, visual theory, and cerebellar deficiency hypothesis.
Visual perception skills are necessary for reading process, spelling, writing and to do numeric tasks. Dyslexic children are in immense need for such visual cognition abilities to grow well and to cope with surrounding environment, their visual perception capacity need to be assessed and early corrected. Consequently, this study attempted to test visual stability in a sample of dyslexic children and estimate their visual perception skills. The supply of the studied sample was the Phoniatrics unit to the Audio-Vestibular unit of Alexandria Main Teaching Hospital. There were 20 children with dyslexia ranging in age from 7 to 11 years, and 20 non-dyslexic children were chosen as a control group. These samples were selected after excluding children with hearing loss, low visual acuity, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), and other neurological problems. All of the children underwent psychometric testing, the Arabic Dyslexia Assessment Test, and phonological awareness test, screening central auditory tests, Dynamic visual perception, Visual perception and awareness, Oculomotor tests, and cerebellar tests (gait, motor tasks, postural stability assessment) will be evaluated.
