Abstract

Summary:
Our study was a Prospective cross-sectional study that examined the effect of low and high-frequency TENS on 24-hour ambulatory blood pressure in the cardiology department, Beni-SuefUniversity. We collected 40 hypertensive patients with an average 24-hour ambulatory blood pressure of more than 130/80 mmHg and 10 patients with symptomatic hypotension with an average 24-hour ambulatory blood pressure of less than 90/60 mmHg. The hypertensive patients were considered successful if they showed at least a 5% reduction of the follow-up as compared to the baseline mean blood pressure on 24-hour-ambulatory blood pressure monitoring follow-up after using the device twice daily for 14 days 3 times over three months. The hypotensive group was considered successful if they showed at least a 5% symptomatic increase of the follow-up as compared to the baseline mean blood pressure on 24-hour-ambulatory blood pressure follow-up after using the device twice daily for 14 days 3 times over three months.
Regarding the hypertension group, our study showed a mean absolute reduction in systolic blood pressure was 8.9±9.4 mmHg, diastolic blood pressure was 3.8±3.7 mmHg, and mean blood pressure was 5.5±5.7 mmHg with a success rate 65% of patients.
Regarding the hypotension group, our study showed a mean absolute increase in systolic blood pressure was 16.2±9.6 mmHg, diastolic blood pressure was 13.3±4.3 mmHg,and mean blood pressure was 14.1±5.4 mmHg with a success rate of 88%.
Inferum BP-051 can be used in the treatment of HTN as an add-on therapy to pharmacological therapy or even alone in cases of grade I HTN and it also can be used effectively in the treatment of patients with symptomatic hypotension. However, we need further longitudinal studies with a larger sample size to confirm the long-term effect of the device and correlate it with the outcomes of hypertension.
There were no reported side effects or complications from patients about the device use e.g. skin damage, neurological manifestations, etc…
