Abstract

Aim: This study evaluated the effect of reinforcing materials on the fracture resistance of complete maxillary dentures reinforced by either PEEK or metal framework meshes. The weight of reinforced dentures in both groups was also calculated. Methodology: The present study was conducted on 14 reinforced complete dentures made with the same denture base thickness and same arrangement of teeth ; divided into 2 groups.1st group were reinforced by metal mesh ,the other group were reinforced by PEEK mesh of the same thickness . all mesh{u2019}s were digitally designed, printed and then converted to metal or PEEK. Each denture was tested by applying load from a universal testing machine using a fissure load applicator at mid palatal area at speed of 5mm/min.The load at failure manifested by sharp DROP at load-deflection curve recorded using the computer software to below 50%. The load required to fracture was recorded in Newton. All these parameters were subjected to statistical analysis. Results: Metal reinforced maxillary dentures could withstand maximum average load of 1686.63 ±325.06 (N), while PEEK reinforced maxillary dentures could withstand maximum average load of 1160.22 ±197.21 (N) with a statistical significant difference between the two groups (P= 0.004)
