Abstract

Cataract extraction in diabetics may be problematic as it could be complicated by either inducing macular edema or worsening of a preexisting one .Thus, preventing and halting progression of macular edema is a paramount concern before deciding cataract surgery in diabetic patients.
The aim of the present study was to compare the effect of intracameral dexamethasone 0.4 mg/0.1 ml injection at the conclusion of cataract surgery extraction to diabetic patients with diabetic macular edema on the central macular thickness (calculated by preoperative and postoperative OCT) to the effect of intravitreal Ranibizumab injection at the conclusion of cataract extraction surgery to diabetic patients with diabetic macular edema on the central macular thickness (calculated by preoperative and postoperative OCT).
The Study was conducted as a prospective interventional randomized case series.
The study was conducted on 40 eyes for Diabetic patients with diabetic macular edema undergoing cataract surgery. The patients were divided into 2 groups: group (A): included 20 eyes who received intracameral dexamethasone injection at the conclusion of cataract surgery, group (B): included 20 eyes who recieved intravitreal injection of Ranibizumab at the conclusion of cataract surgery.
