Abstract This work was conducted in two stationary asphalt mixing plants, Menoufia governorate, the first is in Tukh Tanbisha village, Berket El-Sabaa District and the second is in Meet Khalaf village, Shebin El Kom District to study health disorders which may arise among asphalt mixing plants‟ workers. This study included an exposed group of asphalt mixing plants‟ workers (100) who accepted to participate in the study and a control group who never work in asphalt mixing plants (100). Both groups were matched for age, sex, residence, marital status, income and educational level. The asphalt mixing plants‟ workers and controls were interviewed using a predesigned questionnaire about occupational history, respiratory and neurological manifestations. Also, they were examined generally and locally for respiratory and nervous systems. Neurobehavioral test batteries, ventilatory function tests as well as 1-Hydroxyl pyrene level in urine were carried out for both exposed group and controls aiming to assess respiratory and neurobehavioral disorders in addition to biological monitoring of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon exposure. Environmental studies were done at the analytical laboratory at Environmental Affairs Agency, Environmental Government (Gharbia Governorate, Tanta City) for analysis using spectrophotometric method measuring free crystalline silica level. |
