Abstract Polysulfone (PSF) membrane has excellent chemical characteristics, chemical stability, and resistance, perfect thermal and mechanical properties, and is utilized widely in the membrane industry. Phase inversion procedure was used to prepare PSF membranes in a polar solvent of N,N’-dimethyl formamide (D.M.F.). It was tested in different membrane concentrations and thicknesses. We prepared Zeolitic Imidazole framework 8 (ZIF-8) by a green procedure in an aqueous medium and then dissolved with concentrations ranging from 0.5% to 5% in polysulfone (PSF.) to prepare an ultrafiltration membrane. ZIF-8 nanosized material was uniformly distributed in the PSF ultrafiltration membrane. Significantly, ZIF-8 enhanced the membrane flux from 50.42 L/m2 .h (PSF) to 83.65 L/m2 .h at 1 bar, and the rejection of methyl blue dye rejection was 95.1%, and crystal violet dyes rejection was significantly higher than the PSF membrane only for the two dyes, 41.08%, 46.32%, respectively. characterization techniques were utilized to investigate the surface structure and the prepared membrane performance. The hydrophilicity of the membrane was determined by a contact angle test between water and membrane. In addition, surface structure and cross-sectional porosity were studied by scanning electron microscope. |
