Abstract

The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of adding 2- Methacryloyloxyethyl phosphorylcholine (MPC) in different proportions to a soft denture lining material on its protein adsorption, biofilm activity, water sorption and solubility, and bond strength to the acrylic denture base. Materials and Methods : The MPC was added to acrylic soft denture liner in three different ratios producing four experimental groups [0 (control), 5, 10, 15 wt%]. The protein adsorption, biofilm activity, water sorption and solubility and tensile bond strength of the prepared acrylic groups were studied. The results were then statistically analyzed and compared. Results : Acrylic soft denture liner containing 15 wt% MPC showed the lowest value of both protein adsorption and biofilm activity, while control group exhibited the highest value. Moreover, Adding 15 wt% MPC into soft lining material displayed greater water sorption and lesser solubility. Acrylic soft lining material with 5 wt% and 10 wt% MPC have the highest tensile bond strength values compared to other studied groups. Significance : Incorporation of MPC into acrylic soft denture liner can potentially improve its protein and bacterial repellent capacity. This finding would be beneficial in producing the first protein-repellent acrylic soft denture liner.
