Abstract The research aimed at investigating the impact of using Edmodo on improving writing skills and motivation of the middle school pupils. To fulfill the purpose of the study, two instruments were constructed (an EFL writing test with an analytic rubric, and a motivation scale). The instruments were administered before and after the experiment to measure the pupils’ level. The validity and reliability of the research instruments were established before their use in the research. The quasi-experimental design was adopted throughout the research. The participants were 28 pupils of eighth grade at Adwaa Alhedaya International Schools, in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, where 14 pupils represented the experimental group and 14 represented the control group. Edmodo was used to teach the experimental group, whereas the control group received the regular teaching. Results of the research revealed that teaching EFL writing through Edmodo led to significant improvement in the pupils’ writing skills, and their motivation. Therefore, it was concluded that using Edmodo as a means of teaching and practicing the English language writing skills was highly effective in improving the participants’ performance. |
