Abstract Background: Baby carrying is one of most important baby-care activates. Many baby carrying methods i.e. in arms and Baby carrier are used. Although in arms carrying is most commonly used, baby carrier allows hands-free infant transport. Balance affection by these carrying methods after walking are still unknown. Objective: The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of different baby carrying methods (in arms and baby carrier) and measuring periods (before and after 15 minutes walking) and interaction of both in the females` balance. Methodology: Fifty nulliparous females (aged 24.46 ± 2.287 years), (BMI 23.97 ± 3.5 kg/m2) participated in the study. A single group repeated measures design was carried. The balance was tested before and 15 minutes after walking on the treadmill under three conditions: unloaded, holding an infant mannequin in arms and in the baby carrier. The order of the conditions was randomized using sealed envelope method. Results: The results of our study indicate that Anterior posterior and overall stability indices had significantly deteriorated in in arms versus unloaded condition after walking 15 min (P =0.045). The medio-lateral stability index had significantly improved after 15 min walking using the baby carrier (P=0.006). The baby carrier had significant improved the medio-lateral stability index compared to in arms condition after 15 min walking (P=0.012) |
