Abstract Objective: The aim of the current study is to assess vascular dysfunction in type Idiabetics using IMTs and aortic GCS. Study design:A cross-sectional analytic study. Patients and methods:this study include 92type I diabetic adolescents for more than 3 years and50 age and sex matching normal controls. All patients and controls were subjected to measurementof the IMT of common carotid and common femoral arteries as well as distal abdominal aortaby B-mode ultrasonography and measurement of aortic GCS of the ascending aorta by Echocardiography. Results: themean age of patients was14.91±2.31yearsand themeanduration of diabetes was7.19 ± 3.08years, 32 males and 60 females. The mean age of the controls was 15.73 ± 2.41 years. There was significant increase of intima media thickness of all examined arteries in diabetic group in comparison to control group (P. < 0.001), aIMTwas found significantly higher than other examined arteries in diabetic group. The increasedIMTs was significantly correlated with age and duration of diabetes. There was significant reductionof Ao-GCS in diabetic group in comparison to control group (P. < 0.001) with significant negative correlation between duration of diabetes and age of the patients(P.<0.05).There is negative significant correlation between IMTs and Ao-GCS |
