Abstract

Aggressive fibromatosis (AF) has high potential to infiltrate surrounding tissues, causing high local recurrence rates and may affect surrounding organs. For these reasons, it is vital to identify the factors affecting the outcome of surgery for AF. The purpose of this study is to clarify the risk factors for local recurrence after surgery and to best identity those patients with DF who could benefit from surgical treatment. This study was carried out on cases of extra- abdominal fibromatosis who underwent surgical resection in the period from 2013 to 2017, over a minimum follow up period of 2 years based on data collected from the patients{u2019} records at NCI, Egypt. The cases were divided into two groups (recurrent and non-recurrent) and compared them in terms of various clinical and pathological prognostic factors. In our study, the recurrent group age ranged from 5 to 66 years with median 29.63 and Mean ±SD= 26.27±4.79. It was found that 11 (37.9%) patients were males and 18 (62.1%) patients were females in recurrent group. The non-recurrent group age ranged from 5 to 71 years with median 35.5 and Mean ±SD= 35.42± 21.12. Eleven (42.3%) patients were males and 15 (57.7%) patients were females There was no statistically significant difference (p-value >0.05) between the two groups in terms of age or gender
