Abstract

Background: Central obesity is a defining characteristic of PCOS-which is the most common and complicated endocrine disorder in women of reproductive age and PCOS-symptoms are likely to be exacerbated in the presence of central obesity. Purpose: This study was conducted to determineif there is a difference between the effect of 26000HZ ultrasonic cavitation and 40000HZ ultrasonic cavitation on abdominal adiposity and female sex hormone in PCOS. Subjects and method:Thirtywomen diagnosed with PCOS had participated in the study. They suffered from amenorrhea or oligo-menorrhea and subcapsular follicles.Their ages ranged from 20-35 years. Their BMI ranged from 30 - 35 kg/m². Their waist/hip ratio was {u02C3} 0.85.Their LH/FSH ratio was {u2265}1.5. They were recruited randomly from the outpatient clinic of Gynecology in Minyagovernorate hospital. They were randomly assigned into two groupsequal in number: (A and B); group A (n=15) received 40000HZ ultrasound cavitation, group B (n=15) received 2600HZ ultrasound cavitation. Duration of treatment session was 30 minutes /session, 3 times/ week for two months. Both groups (A and B) received a low caloric diet(1200 Kcal/day).In addition to their medical treatment in the form of lactodel(half tablet) and metformin 500mg daily. All participants in both groups were assessed by measuringweight, BMI, waist circumference, hip circumference, WHR, LH, FSHlevel in the blood, andLH/FSH ratio. Results:The results of this study revealed that there was a highly statistically significant reduction in the post-testing mean value of the weight, BMI, waist circumference, hip circumference, Waist- hip ratio (WHR), and the post-testing median value of LH/FSH ratio in both groups (A and B) (p < 0.0001) while there was a significant increase in the mean value of FSH post-treatment in both groups (A and B) (p < 0.05). LH level post-treatment showed a statistically significant decrease in group B only (p < 0.05)
