Abstract

Background: Plantar faschiitis is one of the most common pathologies withapproximately one million american seeking medical attention for this condition each year. No enough evidence in literature strongly supports the effectiveness of any specific treatment for such condition.Objectives: To the efficacy and safety of a modified surgical technique for endoscopic or open release of plantar fascia. Materials and methods: The study was designed to be a parallel randomized controlled trial. The patients were randomly assigned to two groups group 1: received open plantar fasciotomy.group 2: received endoscopic plantar fasciotomy. A total of 30 feet in 30 patients with plantar fasciopathy for at least one year and resistant for at least two modalities of conservative treatment for six months were involved in this prospective study. All patients had been diagnosed clinically. Results: The mean AOFAS of group 1 and group 2 preoperative score had improved from 62.8 to 85.8 and 61.8 to 90.1 after six months follow-up, respectively. While the VAS score dropped from 85.8 preoperative to 24.4 and 85.6 to 13.4 respectively. Eighty four (84%) of patients had satisfactory outcomes according to roles and Madsuley criteria. No major complications were recorded
