Abstract

In the present work the electrochemical degradation of wastewater effluents of Basic Yellow 28 (BY28) and Basic Red 46 (BR46) textile dyes by using modified dimensionally stable anode (DSA) Ti-IrO2 meshed electrode in the presence of sodium sulfate (Na2SO4) or/ and sodium chloride (NaCl) as supporting electrolytes were investigated. The optimum conditions; of pH, current density, electrode type material, initial dye concentration, and supporting electrolyte concentration; that controlling the proposed electrochemical degradation were studied. The degradation efficiency was followed using Ultraviolet-visible (UV{u2013}Vis) and Fourier{u2013}transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopic techniques. The redox process of the studied textile dyes on the surface of the modified Ti{u2013} IrO2 electrode was explained via cyclic Voltammetry (CV).The identification of the degradation products was assessed by gas chromatography{u2013}mass spectrometry (GC{u2013}MS) analysis. The decolorization and mineralization of the studied textile dyes are demonstrated using chemical oxygen demand (COD) and total organic carbon (TOC). The corresponding current efficiency and energy consumption were estimated to validate the proposed electrochemical method
