Abstract

the present study surveyed some of the metazoan parasites infecting the lesser mouse-tailed bat rhinopoma hardwickei and the long-eared hedgehog hemiechinus auritus captured from in egypt, the recovered parasites were described by light microscopy mainly as well as scanning electron microscopy for most of the recovered worms. two digenean parasites were isolated from the intestine of the examined bats, the surface topography of the two parasites were illucidated by scanning electron microscopy : the first species was urotrema scabridum, the second species was renschetrema indicum. they were distinguished by the type, shape and distribution of tegument spines and papillae scattered around the oral and ventral sucker. one digenean, brachylaima sp. nov., one cestode, mathevotaenia erinacei meggitt (1920), one nematode rictularia plagiostoma and one acanthocephalan moniliformis kalahariensis parasites were isolated from the intestine of the long-eared hedgehog. these parasites were described morphologically and morphometrically. the taxonomy of brachylaima sp. nov, and moniliformis kalahariensis were justified by molecular analysis of their rdna in addition to alignments and the construction of phylogenetic trees
