Abstract

Ipomoea fistulosa Mart. ex Choicy and Ipomoea tricolor Cav. are plants belonging to family Convolvulaceae. The total polymorphism after applying the RAPD method was found to be (61.73%) between the two species. GC/MS analysis of the unsaponifiable fraction of the petroleum ether extract of I. fistulosa leaves resulted in the identification of 33 compounds represented represented (91.82%) and for I. tricolor 22 compounds (95.88%). Analysis of the fatty acids of I. fistulosa leaves resulted in the identification of 10 compounds represented and for I. tricolor 8 compounds. Four compounds are isolated and identified for the first time from the pet. ether extract of I. tricolor leaves. Crude leaf extracts of I. fistulosa and I. tricolor were analyzed via high resolution UPLC{u2013}ESI{u2013}QTOF{u2013}MS-MS in negative and positive ionization mode resulted in a total of 89 chromatographic peaks belonging to various metabolite classes. HPLC analysis of the crude methanol extract of I. fistulosa leaves revealed the identification of 14 compounds with apigenin-7-glucoside as major compound and for I. tricolor leaves revealed the identification of 15 compounds with chlorogenic acid as major compound. Six compounds are isolated and identified from the ethyl acetate extract of I. fistulosa leaves. successive extracts of I. fistulosa and I. tricolor leaves investigated for the in-vitro antioxidant, antcholinesterase and anti-inflammatory activities and revealed that ethyl acetate extracts of both plants declared the highest activities. The crude methanol extracts of both plants investigated for their antihyperglycemic and anticholinesterase activities against streptozotocin induced diabetes neuropathy rats using standard drugs
