Abstract

Hepatitis C Virus (HCV) is the most important virus among the
infectious agents as the cause of liver disease in Egypt. For example, HCV
infects an estimated 170 million individuals worldwide. The highest rates
of HCV infection around the world, with a recorded prevalence of 10 and
20 % in civil and countryside Egyptian areas, respectively, were detected
in Egypt, more than 3 times the global rate. HCC and liver cirrhosis as end
stage liver disease complications, were responsible for the liver mortality
in chronically HCV infection patients. A total of 25% of all cirrhotic
patients will also develop HCC. Higher percentage of HCV- associated
HCC deaths (more than 60%) was detected in Egypt which considered the
highest in the Arab world.
