Abstract

7. Summary
Cancer is one of the top causes of death in many area of the
world. Worldwide, an estimated 19.3 million new cancer cases and
almost 10.0 million cancer deaths occurred in 2020.
Cancer comprises of over two hundred types that have similar
characteristics. Some examples are lymphoma, leukemia, central
nervous system cancer, hepatocellular carcinoma and neuroendocrine
tumors. One common characteristic of this disease is the uncontrolled
multiplication and growth of cells. Cancer cells are characterized by
abnormal cell growth which either able to invade other parts of the
body and called malignant tumors or benign tumors that do not spread
to other parts of the body. Any cell has a chance of becoming
malignant (cancerous) when there is disruption or failure of the
standard cell control mechanisms.
Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is a common problem
worldwide, Egypt ranks third and 15th most populous country in
Africa and the world. In Egypt, the major factors affecting HCC risk
are hepatitis B and C virus.
Chemotherapy is a very promising cancer prevention technique
today. Tumor cell resistance is a key impediment to the successful use
of chemotherapy in cancer treatment. Another difficulty with
chemotherapy is the requirement for tumor cell selectivity in order to
minimize damage in healthy tissues. The trend research in this field is
concentrating on modifying current treatments as well as developing
new chemotherapeutic agents.
