Abstract ”Introduction: Nurses’ adherence to infection preventive measures play a fundamental role in the prevention of ventilator-associated pneumonia which considers most fatal hospital acquired infections, with high mortality rates. This study aimed to: evaluate the effect of implementing training sessions about infection preventive measures for ventilator associated pneumonia on nurses’ knowledge and performance. Method: A quasi-experimental study design (one group pre-posttests). Setting: Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Unit, Mansoura University Children’s Hospital. Sample size: convenience sample of all (30) on job nurses. The researcher used three tools in this study. Tool I: Nurses’ socio-demographic and occupational characteristics structured self-administrated questionnaire. Tool II: Nurses’ knowledge structured self-administrated questionnaire. Tool III: Nurses’ performance observational checklist. Results: revealed highly statistically significant differences between nurses’ total knowledge and performance scores pre, post one and post two, of the training sessions’ implementation with P value equal to 0.000; which concluded that nurses’ knowledge and performance about ventilator-associated pneumonia infection preventive measures in pediatric cardiac intensive care unit were improved after the training sessions’ implementation immediately, as well three months later than before its implementation. Conclusion: The study concluded that, nurses’ knowledge and performance about ventilator-associated pneumonia infection preventive measures in pediatric cardiac intensive care unit were improved after the training sessions’ implementation immediately, as well three months later than before its implementation. Recommendation: Carry out on-job training programs for pediatric cardiac intensive care unit nurses on ventilator-associated pneumonia infection preventive measures; to update their knowledge and performance.
