Abstract The present investigation deals with design, synthesis and biological evaluation of new N4-piperazinylacetyl norfloxacin derivatives (series 1), N-substituted piperazinylnorfloxacin hydroxamic acid derivatives (series 2), different norfloxacin hydroxamic acid mannich bases (series 3) and N-acyl and alkylnorfloxacin amino acid hydrazide and hydroxamic derivatives (series 4). The synthesized compounds were evaluated for different biological activities including in vitro antibacterial activity against Gm+ve and Gm-ve strains and M. tuberculosis. Furthermore, DNA gyrase and Topoisomerase IV inhibitory activity, effects on outer membrane integrity, LPS biosynthesis, LpxC enzyme of Gm-ve bacteria and Peptidoglycan biosynthesis were also undertaken. The thesis comprises six chapters: introduction, scope of investigation, results and discussion, experimental, references and Arabic summary section. |
