Abstract

Purpose: To compare and evaluate the safety and efficacy of sutureless deep sclerectomy as a substitute for the conventional deep sclerectomy. Design: a prospective clinical trial study. Methods: The study included 60 eyes of 40 patients with medically uncontrolled open angle glaucoma despite maximally tolerated medical therapy. Patients were randomized into two groups, {uF0D8}(group 1): underwent sutureless deep sclerectomy {uF0D8}(group 2): underwent conventional deep sclerectomy Intraocularpressure(IOP)wascheckedpreoperativelyand6months postoperatively. Ultrasound bio microscopy (UBM) was done at the first, third, and sixth months post- operatively to follow up the bleb and to evaluate Descemet window. Results: This study reported that percentage of IOP reduction at the sixth month was (51.9%±2), (63.5 % ± 3) compared with the preoperative IOP in group 1 and 2 respectively. Also, a significant difference was found between the number of preoperative and postoperative medications in both groups. P value {u02C2}0,001 No serious complications like endophthalmitis and choroidal detachment were reported during the six months follow up period in both groups. Conclusion: we recommend Sutureless deep sclerectomy as an efficient and safe substitute to conventional technique regarding IOP control and success rates in addition to less ocular irritation, and a better quality of patient{u2019}s life
