Abstract

Herein, we developed a facile strategy for designing an efficient binary electrocatalyst for hydrogen evolution reaction (HER). SEM, EDX and XRD techniques are used to identify the morphology and composition of electrocatalyst. Electrochemical measurements (CV, LSV, Tafel plots, EIS, and chronopotentiometry) were performed to characterize the as-prepared elctrocatalysts and study their electrocatalytic activity and stability towards HER. First catalyst is composed of MoO₂ atop copper foam (CuF) for HER. Firstly, a foam layer of Cu is electrodepsoited atop smooth Cu surface using dynamic hydrogen bubbling template (DHBT) technique, followed by MoO₂ electrodeposition atop of CuF with an aim to enhance its catalytic activity towards HER. The as-prepared catalayst showed a high catalytic activity with onset potential of -118 mV vs. RHE at current density of 10 mA/cm². A Tafel slope of 123 mV/dec is obtained revealing the predominance of the Volmer- Hyrovesky or Volmer-Tafel mechanism of HER.The secondly catalyst is composed of electrodeposited nickel foam (NiF) on Nickel foam picece. Firstly, NiF layer is electrodeposited on a NiF piece using DHBT technique. The as-prepared catlayst showed a high catalytic activity with onset potential of -52 mV vs. RHE at current density of 50 mA/cm². A Tafel slope of 164 mV/dec is obtained revealing the redominance of the Volmer-Hyrovesky or Volmer-Tafel mechanism of HER.The as-prepared electrocatalysts showed good stability for a long-term operation
