Abstract

Background: Laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy is basically a restrictive bariatric procedure, the impact of the residual volume of the stomach after LSG on weight loss and possible weight regain has been investigated. Moreover, a number of investigators proposed that the volume of resected stomach during LSG is a predictor for weight regain postoperatively Aim and objectives:The main objective of this study is to correlate preoperative gastric volume detected by CT volumetry in laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy and weight loss in the first year post-operatively. Subjects and methods: A prospective study was conducted on 120patients,mean± SD of age is 33.96 ± 9.68 years old, and the duration of the study was 1 year postoperatively Results: Mean ± SD of preoperative gastric volume cc is 1021.80 ± 253.05 and Mean ± SD of weight loss is 50.43 ± 9.58 kg and There was a weak positive correlation between preoperative gastric volume and preoperative BMI (r = 0.761, p=0.001). Conclusion: MSCT volumetric study of the stomach is a gold standard imaging technique for evaluation of gastric size in pre and postoperative states. In the context of bariatric sleeve gastric surgery, preoperative gastric volume does not have a significant impact on body weight loss in obese individuals one year postoperatively
