Abstract
Objective: To assess the effect of laser acu-cupping on chronic mechanical low back pain in elderly women. Design: sixty elderly women suffering from chronic mechanical low back pain (MLBP) participated in this study .Their age ranged from (65-75). The patients were assigned randomly into two equal groups; study group (A) and control group (B). The study group (A) included 30 patients who received the conventional physiotherapy in addition to laser acu-cupping device (Laser wavelength: 650nm, Laser output: 5mW±20%) on back for 10 min, 3 sessions per week for 6 weeks. The control group (B) included 30 patients who received a conventional physiotherapy for 20-30 min for 3 sessions per week for 6 weeks plus medical treatment. Cortisol level was used to measure level of pain, intensity of pain measured by visual analogue scale, Oswerty diability index was analyzed to assess functional diability were done before and after the 6 weeks intervention peroid. Results: showed that there was a significant reduction in cortisol level, VAS and ODI post treatment compared with that pretreatment in both groups with favorable results in group A.Conclusions: Each group demonstrated significant improvements in back pain and back muscle strength after treatment , with significant greater improvements seen in the study group when compared with the control group
