Abstract

Analyzing time till a certain event is a common issue in many fields of research especially in biostatistics. Survival analysis is the collection of statistical techniques which analyzes this special type of data. The survival data appears frequently to be organized in a hierarchical structure that the data is organized in clusters i.epatients within hospitals or hospitals within regions etc{u2026}. The observations within the same cluster seem to be more homogenous than the other clusters and that breaks the independence assumptionassociated with the classical linear regression. Hence, the need for an alternative for the classical models has emerged to deal with the special nature of the hierarchically- structured survival data which are called multilevel survival models. In this thesis, some of the available multilevel survival models proposed in literature will be reviewed. In addition, the available models will be applied to a real data and the results of the different models will be compared. The current thesis is conducted using the data from the Egyptian Demographic and Health Survey (EDHS 2014)
