Abstract

Aim: Evaluate the clinical performance of monolithic zirconia with vertical preparation technique and compare them to deep chamfer finish line preparation in single crowns restoring posterior teeth.
Methodology: Fourty full coverage zirconia crowns were fabricated for posterior teeth. The patients were divided into two groups according to the preparation designs. Group1:(control group) horizontal
finish line and Group2:( intervention group) vertical finish line.
PMMA resin (YAMAHACHI PMMA) was used for the try in stage and monolithic zirconia (Katana, Kuraray) was used for the final restorations.
The try-in and the final restorations were performed using Cad/Cam (DWX-50) machine
with software (Exocad).
The restoration surfaces were treated using Z-primeS (Bisco) and the
cementation was done by using self-adhesive resin cement (Permacem 2.0).
Marginal adaptation, fracture, gingivitis, recurrent caries, and patient satisfaction were assessed immediately after cementation using the modified United States Public Health Service for restoration clinical assessments (MUSPHS standards).
These measurements were repeated after one, three, six, nine, and twelve months
respectively.
Results: Chi-square test was used to compare between the two groups. No statistically significant difference was detected between both groups for all tested outcomes (Fracture, marginal adaptation, secondary caries and marginal discoloration) over one year.
