Abstract

This study reported here was carried out at environmental research and studied Institute (ESRI), Sadat University, and the crosses season was done in private land Minia governorate during successive season 2019. The genetic materials used in this investigation involved ten Egyptian inbred lines of maize. These Egyptian lines were; G-308A, RG-5 g.s, RG-8 g.s, G-221, G-241, RG-15 g.s, RG-9 g.s, G-308A, RG-17 g.s and G-201 D. All possible crosses compinations excluding reciprocals were made between the ten inbred lines by hand method giving a total of 45 genotypes in 2019 season.
In summer season 2020 the two experiments were conducted to the two locations under two independent experiments (normal and stress irrigation treatment), by adding normal irrigation every 12 (N) days and water-stress irrigation every 21 days(S).
Data were recorded on vegetative traits i.e., days to tasseling, days to silking, plant height, ear height, leaf Angle, leaf rolling, leaf proline content and relative water content and yield and its component i.e., ear weight, kernel fresh weight, number of rows/ear, number of kernels/row, 100-kernels weight, number of ears/plot, number of kernels/ear/plot, drought susceptibility index, Feddan yield and drought sucsiptabilty index.
The main objectives of this study are: -
Estimating the general and specific combining abilities and their interactions by using half-diallel cross, study the heterosis expression, genetic parameters and heritability for vegetative and yield and its components in parents and their F1 hybrids, the component of genetic variances and its effects on the inheritance of the traits under study, establish the potentiality of heterosis expression for grain yield, yield-related and drought susceptibility index characters, the magnitude of both general and specific combining ability (Griffing 1956) and their interaction with two different irrigation treatments (N and S) as two different environmental conditions, the evaluation of the different genetic components according to Hayman (1954) and Jones (1965) and heritability in narrow sense, the importance which should be given to this material in future breeding program by evaluating the ten inbred lines of maize according to their general and specific combining ability effects, the investigation of the ten inbred lines of maize using the graphical analysis (Johnson and Aksel, 1959), and estimating the stability parameters for maize genotypes using locations (Minia and Assuit governorates) and irrigation (Normal and Stress) regimes.
