Abstract

Petrophysics analysis is an important and vital step for productive zone identification, hydrocarbon exploration and prospect evaluation. It reduces the risk during hydrocarbon exploration and improves the understanding of reservoir characterization. In this paper, the qualitative and quantitative petrophysical analysis was done to improve the Jurassic reservoirs in Gullfaks field, North Sea, Norway. Where, the main Jurassic reservoirs are Tarbet, Ness and Cook Formations. A suit of well log data from eight exploration wells was utilized to conduct this study. The Gullfaks oil field is located in the Tamped area, the north-eastern part of block 34/10, in Norwegian sector of the North Sea, the west of Norway offshore in the North Sea. The Tamped area is structural high and consists of many rotated fault blocks. The Brent group was deposited at a tectonic movement’s time during the last stages of thermal subsidence following Triassic rifting. Where, rifting recommenced during the deposition of the youngest formation within the Brent Group, which represents predominantly shallow marine and coastal sandstones. Petrophysics analysis includes calculation of porosity, fluid saturation and shale content. from this study, it shows good porosity in the Tarbet, Ness and Cook reservoirs up to 18%, average shale volume is observed higher in Ness Formation, which is shaly sand reservoir, but it is observed the highest shale volume in Drake formation up to 85%, due to it is the main shale formation in the studied area
