Abstract Bladder cancer, is the sixth most prevalent cancer in men worldwide. In Egypt, it is the second most common malignancy among Egyptian males. Urothelial carcinoma represents about 90% of all primary tumors of the urinary bladder. Aim of the work: Is to study the expression of stem cell markers ALDH1 and CD44 and their relation to different clinicopathological parameters in urinary bladder urothelial carcinoma cases. Material and methods: This study included 60 urothelial bladder carcinoma specimens obtained by radical cystectomy and trans-urethral resection of tumors. Results: There was no statistically significant relationship between ALDH1 expression and most of the different clinicopathological parameters while there was statistically significant relationship between ALDH1 expression and the presence of bilharziasis. There was no statistically significant relationship between CD44 expression and all clinic pathological parameters. Conclusion: There was statistically significant relationship between ALDH1 expression and the presence of bilharziasis. Further studies were needed to determine the possibility of considering ALDH1 expression in the urothelial carcinoma a prognostic factor |
